Background[edit | edit source]

History[edit | edit source]

The hotel was destroyed by a fire on 18 September 1914:

OLD HOTEL BURNT CLUNES, Sunday - An old landmark in Fraser street, the Seven Stars Hotel, which was delicensed some time ago, was gutted by fire on Friday night. The inflammable nature of the structure and a strong wind prevented the brigade from effecting a save. Whilst the tenants, Mr. and Mrs. Boyd and a lodger, were sitting at the tea table the children went into their bedroom, and, with matches, were looking for doll's clothes, when they ignited some of the hangings. Mrs. Boyd rushed into the burning room to look for them, but fortunately they had run out. She was rescued by her husband, and both suffered injuries. Mrs. Boyd was taken to hospital. The building, it is stated, was insured, but nothing definite is known, as the agent is away. The contents were uninsured.[2]
