The Smythesdale Brewery Company operated the Smythesdale Brewery, <1861-1866>.

The brewery at Smythesdale was close to the intersection of the Glenelg Highway and the Sebastopol Road. It is now called the Brewery Dam Reserve and is next to the fire running track. Google Ref:-37.642630, 143.688361

The brewery was operated by Scrase and Ainley, and was offered for sale when the partnership was ended in 1865.

The brewery was offered for sale in December 1865, and again in March 1866:

FRIDAY, 23rd MARCH, At 12 o'clock sharp. SALE AT SMYTHESDALE of THE SMYTHESDALE BREWERY COMPANY. To Brewers and Parties in Search of a Fortune-making Investment. AN OLD-ESTABLISHED BREWERY, Doing a large and country trade. CHAS. DYTE has received instructions from the Smythesdale Brewery Company, in consequence of a dissolution of the partnership, to sell by public auction, on their premises, situate at Smythesdale, on Friday, the 23rd instant, at twelve o'clock sharp, All those substantial and commodious Premises, situate at Smythesdale, and well-known as Smythesdale Brewery, replete in every respect, and capable of brewing from 100 to 120 hogsheads per week; together with all improvements, consisting of Cottages, Huts, Stable, Offices, and large Reservoir, with an unlimited supply of water. Also, all the HORSES, ROLLING STOCK, WAGGONS, Drays, Harness, with all the tools, implements, and requisites required to carry on the business systematically. Note. The auctioneer begs to remark that, as the property is for positive sale, a first-rate opportunity offers itself to any persons desirous of embarking in tho brewery business, with a certainty of realising a colossal fortune in a few years.
