The police opposed the license renewal in December 1926 on the grounds that the building was dilapidated:

Objection to the renewal of the licence of the Rokewood Hotel was made at the annual Licensing Court on Friday by Inspector Black on the ground that by premises were dilapidated. The licensee Charles James, produced plans for a new building, and the licence was renewed on condition that the erection was commenced in February.[1]
