There was a report on progress at the mine in June 1865:
The Stanley Company is putting down a shaft 101 feet by 3 feet 10 inches in the clear, near the 220 feet bore. A beam engine of 70 horse power, by Key of Kirkaldy, is delivered on the ground, and a contract let for rivetting together the boiler plates. The cylinder is 31 inches in diameter, and is the largest yet brought into this part of the district.[2]
