The Star Hotel was a hotel in North Creswick, Victoria, <1861-1916.

Site[edit | edit source]

In June 1864 the hotel was described as being at Slaughteryard Hill, Creswick.[1]

Background[edit | edit source]

The hotel was one of six in the Creswick district closed by the License Reduction Board in 1916.[2]

History[edit | edit source]

In June 1863 the hotel was described in the license application:

HENRY STEVENS RICHARDS, Publican; house at Slaughteryard Hill, Creswick owned by applicant; three sitting-rooms, three bedrooms; present occupier licensed. Sign, Star Hotel[1]

The hotel's license was reviewed by the Creswick Licensing Court in January, 1916.[3] The hearings were held in February 1916:

The next hotel dealt with was the Star, at North Creswick, the Ballarat Brewing Co., being the owners and Miss Mary Teresa Bolton the licensee. Senior Constable Stevenson said the building was in bad order inside and out. It was well conducted but could be closed without any inconvenience to the public, the hotel near the railway station being necessary and quite sufficient. Messrs Thomas Coffey and James Francis Curtis gave evidence that the hotel was well conducted. They did not think two hotels were needed at North Creswick. Decision reserved.[4]

At the February 1916 hearing, the owners agreed to surrender the license on 31 December 1916.[5]
