Tattersall's Hotel was a hotel in Ballarat, <1867-1932>.

Site[edit | edit source]

Tattersall's hotel was in Armstrong Street, Ballarat. In 1911 it was described as being just 100 yards around the corner from the Alexandra Hotel in Sturt Street.[1] In 1873 it is said to be in Doveton Street.[2]

Background[edit | edit source]

History[edit | edit source]

In August 1886 the hotel was raided by the police:

Senior-constable Molyneaux and Plainclothes Constable Rogerson on Saturday night made a raid upon two publichouses, one in the City and one in the Town. At Mullen’s Tattersall’s hotel, it is alleged that at 10 minutes after midnight about 10 persons were found in the bar drinking and shaking dice. At Ingram's Royal Standard hotel, Ballarat East, it is also stated sufficient evidence was obtained to warrant proceedings being taken.[3]

The hotel was one of 23 hotels reviewed by the License Deprivation Board in Ballarat in 1922.[4]

In December 1932 the license was renewed after the Licensing Inspector withdrew his objections to the renewal.[5]
