Background[edit | edit source]

The hotel site was originally Tait's Hotel in the 1860s. It became the Royal Highlander Hotel in the 1880s. In 1961 it was renamed as the Peter Lalor Hotel. It closed in 2014. The building was reopened as a bar in 2018, called The Pub With Two Names, and renamed The Highlander in September 2020. Following the COVID-19 lockdowns in 2020 and 2021, the hotel reopened in July 2021 as Mister Lalors Social Club.[1]
