The company's first meeting of shareholders was held at Hunt's Hotel, Sturt Street, Ballarat, in January 1869:

A meeting of the Union Co., Blackwood, was held at Hunt's hotel yesterday evening ; Mr A. J. Forbes in the chair. After the report had been read, the deed was adopted, and Messrs Forbes, Steinfeld, Dugald Maine, Morgan Lee, James Eddy, J. Harris, of Blackwood, and James Chisholm were elected directors. Messrs Ford and Christie were appointed auditors, and Mr H. Norton manager. The manager was instructed to register the company forthwith. The shareholders expressed great confidence in the claim, and decided to proceed with mining operations immediately.[1]
