In April 1857 the newspaper reported that the Court House had been established in the former Union Hotel:

LOCAL COURT.—The Court was held today, as also on last sitting, at the new Court House, the late Union Hotel, Market square. It is a vast improvement on the iron hothouse of twelve feet square in which the Court was formerly held, both for the members, but more particularly for the public, who are now able to be present during the proceedings, but before were virtually shut out for want of room.[1]
