The Washington Hotel was a hotel in Clunes, Victoria, <1860-1898.

The Washington Hotel was in Clunes. The hotel was in Fraser Street, opposite the Bull and Mouth Hotel.[1]

The hotel building was sold for removal in June 1898:

Another old landmark is about to disappear in the Washington hotel. It was erected here 40 years ago, and was for many years one of the leading hotels, but it recently lost its license, and was sold last Friday for removal, and brought £14 2s 6d. In the good old times it changed hands for £1200.[2]

  • December 1888, dinner to farewell Mr. P. A. Saunders, secretary of the Port Phillip Company, who was moving to Melbourne.[3]


The People[edit | edit source]

  • In June 1860 the publican's license was granted to John George.[4]
    • It was renewed in June 1861 and 1863.[5][6]
    • In August 1863, George was granted a night license and billiard license for the hotel.[7]
  • In 1864 the publican was G. F. Wiles.[1][8]
  • In December 1871 the publican's license was granted to G. B. Pearce.[9]
