The hotel was offered for lease in February 1863:

TO LET- The WESTERN MAIL HOTEL, Lydiard street, adjoining the Railway Terminus Ballarat West, containing thirteen rooms (the present lessee going to New Zealand). Full particulars on application to W. C. SMITH, Auctioneer and Land Agent, Sturt street.[2]
