Barry owned the Mallow Hotel in Skipton Street, Ballarat. He died in June 1919:
Thc death has occurred at the age of 78 of Mr. William Barry, an early Ballarat pioneer. and for 50 years proprietor of the Mallow Hotel, Skipton-street. Deceased, who was a native of County Clare, Ireland, was one of the promoters of the successful alluvial mining companies at Redan, including the famous Band of Hope, Great Redan Extended, Prince of Wales and Kohinoor.[1]
