In July 1873, Coulson was listed as insolvent:
William Coulson, of Carngham, hotel keeper. Causes of insolvency-Losses in mining, and falling-off in business. Liabilities, £548 ; assets, £247 ; deficiency, £301. Mr. Levinson, assignee.[1]
In December 1873, 1874, and 1875, the license for the Southern Cross Hotel at Snake Valley was granted William Coulson.[2][3][4]
