From at least September 1873 to December 1874, Saunders held the license for the Eastern Station Hotel.[1][2]

Saunders was declared bankrupt in May 1886:

NEW INSOLVENT. William Saunders, publican, Ballarat East. Causes of insolvency—Pressure of creditors, sickness in family, &c. Liabilities, £215 8s; assets, £20; deficiency, £195 8s. Mr F. M. Claxton, assignee.[3]
