The Woolpack Hotel was a hotel in Ballarat, Victoria, <1871-1924>.

Site[edit | edit source]

The hotel was described as being in Bungaree.[1] A license was granted in March 1872, and in April 1872 the Ballarat East Borough Council wrote to the Bungareeshire with a complaint about the location:

From the Ballarat East Borough Council, protesting against the issue of a £10 publican’s license to R. Ditchburn for the Woolpack hotel, which was less than one mile distant from the borough boundary.—Referred to the chairman.[2]

When offered for sale in June 1871 it was described as being on the corner of Fellmongers and Springs Road.[3] In 1915 the Woolpack hotel was described as being in Gong Gong Road.[4] These two locations are very close and the area is also described as Brown Hill.

On 22 March 1915, the hotel was included on a list of hotels to be deprived of their licenses. This list was complied by the Licenses Reduction Board in Melbourne. Licensing district hearings for hotels on this list were to be held at the Ballarat Supreme Court on 11 May.[4]
